So Sorry.......

Way too long since my last post.....

Christmas came and went quickly. I spent several weeks before, stocking the two local galleries that I work with, then it was off to Mexico to see the bro and his new project ( a unique shop in San Miguel de Allende, named 'Wabi').  January was here, and I headed to Savannah for a 6 week change of scenery. I sort of put the clay work on a back burner, but made trips to Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Blufton to look for a good gallery to represent me. But lo and behold, my favorite was right in the Savannah City Market.  And as of April 1, the Signature Gallery will show my sculptures. So I head down, this weekend to set up a small exhibit. 

I promise to post soon, and to show pics of the newest gallery!

Stage 2....

After spending the summer refining the animal series, it has now come to fruition.  The Sweet Magnolia Gallery in Flat Rock, NC has almost all displayed in this pic.....

Next stage of creativity...I am working on larger scales, and with more abstraction.  Fall is here, and seems to be inspiring me to spend more time in the studio!

Up & Running......

So this phase of clay work is basically finished.  I will add to the collection, from time to time, but it is time to move on to new challenges.  Currently, I am back to working on larger heads, and will post some pics when a selection is complete.
In the meantime, this is the way I am showing the safari animals in the Sweet Magnolia Gallery....Flat Rock, NC.

Found these great old drink crates in an Asheville Antique warehouse, along with a couple of 80 yr. old wooden chests, and think they make great displays.....so in the middle of simplifying my life, I continue to 'add on'......;-)

Safari Animals

Haven't posted for awhile.....too involved in a 'safari' project.......had a few requests for African animals, and sort of got hooked.  So here is the first batch.....hope to tackle gorillas and cats sometime soon.

It took more than a month to turn out this batch....very tedious, and slow!

Between breakage, experimenting, and failed glazing, seemed like I would never see an end result......

Lu Bu

The Second Larger Scale Sculpture

Lu Bu was a second century AD Chinese warlord....sort of a second level warlord, but a fierce one.
He served under another higher level warlord by the name of Ding (something), and in 189 AD he killed Ding and delivered his head to an even stronger warlord who's name was Dong.  True story!
Lu Bu died in 199 AD.

Seems only appropriate that I now have his head on a stick!

Opening Night at the TFA sculpture show

Last night was the preview party/opening night reception for the juried sculpture show.  I quickly realized how lucky I was just to have been allowed in!  A very good show, with abou 44 accepted entries from 5 states. The large outside pieces were terrific. Probably a dozen ranging in size from 3 feet tall up to maybe 15 feet tall. So well done, and hundreds if not thousands of work hours! Made my little entry seem quite insignificant!  But everyone was complimentary, and encouraging, so on to the next level.....I hope!

So, all in all, a great and inspiring experience. The show runs for a month, so don't miss it if you are in the area!

Wandering Spirits invade the Tryon Fine Arts Ctr!

The Spirits made their way to the TFA on Sunday......and I went over, today, to cement them to their pedestal.  After all, I have already had one disaster with them when I was preparing for the show!
But all is well, and the opening reception is Friday night. Pretty funny though.....my entry is the smallest out of 44....and I am greatful to the TFAC for letting me in this juried show!
